Mr. Buckley's hilarious satirical novel about Washington Lobbyists. Laugh-out-loud funny! $10.40
A collection of Chris' short pieces for places like The New Yorker. I literally laughed aloud while reading this! $11.20
Things I like about Mrs. Baldridge:1) She was the Social Secretary to Mrs. Kennedy.
2) She thinks the EGs are Just Swell. I quote: "The Etiquette Grrls are very funny, very wise, and very in your face. it's easier to learn manners when you're laughing rather than crying." I am honored indeed that The Grande Dame of Manners likes the EGs!
$10.50
A good general reference book. Good to keep on your shelf next to TYNTBT and MTYNTBT!!! $23.80
Yet another handy book to have on your reference shelf to reseach ways to word wedding invitations and such. The first time I met Mrs. Post, she complimented me on my vintage yellow linen Anne Forgarty dress!
EG is the first one to admit that she's not exactly a Dante Scholar. Nonetheless, this facinating historical novel/mystery kept her guessing 'till the very end. Plus, it's filled with real-life characters, like EG's beloved Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Highly recommended! $11.16
I have never seen the Tony-Award Winning (and multiply-nominated) Mr. Leonard in a thing in which I didn't like him. I am proud and honored to count him among my Dear Friends. This is the film in which I first discovered him, and believe you me, it got my friends and I through many a dreary weekend at our all-girls' boarding school. I don't know how many times we watched it, but to this day, we can quote practically the entire movie by heart. A surefire sign of a classic film. DVD $16.39
RSL. Christian Bale. Benny Goodman. Swing Dancing. Honestly, can you ask for anything more? I think not. DVD $9.99
Everyone needs a little Shakespeare in thier lives, and with this all-star cast (Ken & Em, Denzel, Kate Beckinsale, Michael Keaton, and somewhat inexplicably, Keanu), this is Shakespeare that is fun to watch, and often laugh-out-loud funny. (Which Shakespeake comedies are supposed to be, no matter what you might think in your High School English Lit class.) Highly recommended. DVD $12.26
One of the best, most powerful movies I have ever seen (at least in recent years.) with a cast of only three (Robert, Ethan, and Uma), and set entirely in one room, this film has the feel of a play. (Not surprising, since it was one first) The tension between the three actors will keep you on your toes, and glued to the screen. DVD $13.49
Don't let the title fool you -- this early movie of Robert's is funny as all get-out (intentionally), and a brilliant send-up of vampire flicks. A rare find, and worth your while. VHS $9.98
We love Wilco. We love RSL. So what could be better than Robert singing on Wilco's soundtrack to Ethan Hawke's directorial debut? Not much, Dear Reader, not much. CD $14.99
Now, I'm generally not a fan of adaptations of novels (especially of novels I like, such as Patricia Highshmith's finely wrought novel of the same name), and I'm not to keen on Matt, and I'm most definately not too keen on GP (especially after she burdened her Wee One with that ridiculous name), but despite all that I loved this movie. The acting is supurb (well, except for GP, who, as usual, is rather vapid and bland), the scenery is gorgeous, the music is great, and well, it's an all-around good movie. Not only is Jude talented, and positively dreamy, but he's a really sweet guy in real-life too. DVD $12.29
This is a great jazz album, worth a listen, if for nothing else than Jude and Matt's duet on the Utterly Fab Tu Vuo' Fa L'Americano. Follow the link to listen to a snippet, and I promise you'll want to buy this album! CD $14.99
This is a super Sci-Fi flick in the vein of Adolus Huxley's Brave New World, starring Jude, Ethan, and Uma. Architecture Buffs take note: Watch for the office building they all work in -- it's Frank Lloyd Wright's famous Marin County Civic Center. DVD $12.26
Okay, so Jennifer Tilley is Annoying As Hell, but other than that, this is a sweet little overlooked movie. Worth a peek. DVD $9.94
It seems like yesterday that Jen Zablocki, lead singer and guitarist of Kittyhawk, was sitting in my dorm room freshman year in college, strumming away. Well, she's all growed up now, and has this great folk-rock band. Waaaaay better than Dave Matthews even. If you're lucky enough to live in the New York City area, be sure to try to catch a KH show. You won't be disappointed! CD New and Used from $4.70
In 1970, Sir Laurence Olivier built The Young Vic (The baby sister of the legendary Old Vic) for his theatre company. The structure was only meant to last five years, and here it is, almost thirty-five years later, and, well, frankly, Dear Reader, the theatre is about to Fall Down. My Dear Friend Jude Law, who got his start at the Young Vic, is spearheading a campaign to raise funds for the new building. As many of you know, I am an avid supporter of the theatre, and as my love for it really started when I was a Wee One living in London (and where I saw many productions at the Young Vic), I wanted to put my money where my mouth is. I couldn't afford much, but I sent a check off to Jude, and if you're a fan of the theatre, especially the theatre in London, you should think about it, too, even if it's only $5.00. Many Broadway plays get their start in London (Kevin Spacey in O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh leaps to mind), and without the London stage, Broadway would be in trouble, too. Every bit counts toward making the London theatre scene continue to be vibrant. Click here to donate online (Um, actually, that portion of the site seems not to be working right now, but you can read about the theatre here), and send your checks to: The Young Vic Campaign,
